Now in cyborg form/Now with new gap-toothed smile.
Lots of big life events lately.

On Tuesday I had minor surgery to implant titanium rods into my upper jaw to (finally and permanently) replace two teeth I never had the ability to grow.

Until the final crowns are attached to the implants a few months from now, I have two big gaps in my smile. Those gaps are filled in by a retainer-style, removable prothesis, which unfortunately makes me talk with a lisp.

Currently I think the lisp is slightly worse than the smile gaps. The retainer deal is uncomfortable and frustrating, so I leave it out, mostly.

Also, I have a twisted desire to tell people the gory details of the procedure, probably because I want to prove I'm not a sissy.

(Oh, and thanks for the congratulatory messages!)

(and I wouldn't think you're a sissy even if there was no gory details)

Not into the gory details at all, but I'm glad you're getting it fixed. And don't worry about the lisp...it'll go away once you're used to talking with a retainer. I think it took me about two weeks max.

as someone who has had numerous devices installed in my mouth, i assure you, the lisp only lasts a couple of days and our brilliant mouths learn to speak all over again with our new cyborg mouths. you have no idea how many times i had to learn to speak over again because of wiry obstacles!

My dentist wants to implant two baby teeth I still have onto titanium rods, so I'm very interested in the process of attaining bionic teeth!

i am going to get a tooth implanted, too! no titanium for me, though, i was fortunate enough to get BONE injected into the hole left from the very very painful extraction of a tooth that had spontaneously developed what those in the industry call 'internal resorption'. essentially, it's just your tooth deciding to (insanely painfully) rot from the inside out. because of the bone implant and my subsequent leaving-the-country, i will have a gap in my teeth for two years.

we have so much in common!

hahaha :)
